“Al Lavoro!” by Charlotte Dumas is Fantombooks’ third release. Curated by Francesco Zanot and designed by Fabrizio Radaelli, the book is available through fantomeditions.com and selected bookshops.
The project is the result of the cooperation between Andrea Botto and Francesco Zanot, respectively director and curator of the 5th Rapallo Fotografia Contemporanea, which runs from January 15, 2011 to February 13, 2011 at the Castello di Rapallo, Italy. Dedicated to examining contemporary photographic practice, RFC has entrusted Dutch photographer Charlotte Dumas to document the subject of working dogs in the region. Dumas’ depictions investigate the formal and psychological attributes of portrait photography, studied by the way that we relate to animals. Thus the dogs become projections of our own thinking, while the intimate, eloquent and sculptural quality of the images are tuned to a broader tradition of social theory and portraiture.
Charlotte Dumas (b. 1977 Vlaardingen, The Netherlands, charlottedumas.nl) studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and was a resident at the Rijksakademie for Visual Arts in Amsterdam in 2001 and 2002.
